Eligibility
- Any book judged to be of value to Canadian lawyers and judges in their everyday life.
- The book must have been published in the two year period prior to the award.
- Granted in alternating years for works written in English (odd number years) and French (even number years).
- Co-authors are acknowledged as candidates.
Presentation
This award is presented at the Canadian Bar Association Canadian Legal Conference Council Awards Luncheon in August.

Selection Process
The successful candidate is selected by a Selection Committee of eminent lawyers, judges and/or academics appointed annually by the Foundation for Legal Research.

Award
The award takes the form of a $10,000 cash prize funded by the Foundation for Legal Research.
